Conrad Hamako, M.D.
Conrad Hamako, M.D. is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is a graduate of the University of California Los Angeles Medical School and received his Ophthalmology training at the Jules Stein Eye Institute, UCLA School of Medicine. In addition to residency training, he completed a Fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Jules Stein Eye Institute. Dr. Hamako has an active medical eye practice and performs cataract surgery as well as cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid surgery.
John Crowder, M.D.
John Crowder, M.D. is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist with 36-years of experience. He attended Tulane University School of Medicine, and completed his internship at Los Angeles County USC Medical Center. He then spent 4 years at Los Angeles USC Medical Center as Director of Trauma, and Associated Professor of Emergency Medicine. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Doheney/USC Medical Center. He established his private practice in Santa Cruz and San Benito County in 1978. Dr. Crowder provides comprehensive eye care, including routine exams, medical evaluation and care for eye problems, and cataract and glaucoma surgery, strabismus, functional and cosmetic ocular plastic procedures, as well as many retinal treatments.
Lawrence Birndorf, M.D.
Lawrence Birndorf, M.D. is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist. He is highly skilled at understanding patient problems and finding ways to correct them. He takes time to listen to what patients say, applies appropriate testing, and offers the most efficient and often the least expensive solution whenever possible. Doctor Birndorf is a graduate of the University pf Michigan Medical School. He received his eye training at the University of Florida with an emphasis on corneal disease and glaucoma care. He has presented many professional lectures and has taught advanced cataract surgery techniques in the United States and in foreign countries including Kenya, China, India, Myanmar, Bangladesh, and the Dominican Republic. He had the honor of performing cataract surgery with Mother Theresa at his side while teaching in Calcutta, India in 1993. Dr. Birndorf is accepting new patients and conducts eye exams in English or Spanish.
Courtney J Ray, MD
Dr. Ray is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist, graduating from UC Davis where he majored in Biochemistry. He attended medical school at Tulane School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr. Ray trained at the Mason Eye Institute where he completed both a residency in Ophthalmology and a Fellowship in Cornea and Extended Eye Disease. He then entered private practice in the Pensacola area. Dr. Ray was Medical Director of Pan Handle Medical Group, a referral based high volume cataract and Lasik practice. In 2009, he returned to California and joined Coastal Eye Associates.
Anne Kato, MD
Anne Kato, M.D. is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist, and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. She is a graduate of Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and then completed her Ophthalmology training at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. As a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist, her practice encompasses all aspects of Ophthalmology, both medical and surgical. She is committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care as a physician, with a strong emphasis on the physician-patient relationship. Dr. Kato and her husband, an Emergency Physician, have settled in Santa Cruz County with their two young children. Her personal interests include yoga, hiking, traveling, film, farmers’ markets, cooking, and spending time with her family. She is accepting new patients at her Freedom and Hollister offices.
